PdParty: An Open-Source iOS Application for Pure Data Patches
PdParty is an open-source iOS application specifically designed for running Pure Data patches on Apple mobile devices. Developed by Daniel Wilcox, PdParty offers a range of features that elevate the mobile audio experience. Inspired by PdDroidParty and RjDj, PdParty goes beyond its predecessors by supporting OSC, MIDI, and MiFi game controller input. Additionally, it implements native Pd GUI objects, providing users with a WYSIWYG patch to mobile device experience.
The application supports various scene types, including compatibility modes for PdDroidParty and RjDj. Users can easily manage both patches and abstraction libraries through the built-in web server. Unlike single-purpose audio applications, PdParty aims to serve as a platform for general-purpose digital signal processing via Pure Data patches.
For new users, PdParty offers a User Guide and the PdParty Composer Pack, which contains essential abstractions for composing on a computer, as well as scene type templates. It is important to note that PdParty is primarily intended for individuals who want to run Pure Data patches or create their own scenes. If you do not fall into these categories, you may not find this app useful. Please refrain from giving it a negative rating based on unfamiliarity or lack of use.
PdParty is available for free on the Apple App Store, aligning with the open-source Pure Data community. If you wish to support the developer or PdParty's development, consider sponsoring a PdParty workshop, specific development, or a robotcowboy artist residency.
To stay up-to-date with PdParty, refer to the changelog on the PdParty website. If you need to update the included PdParty patch folders (lib, samples, tests) after installing a new version, simply use the buttons located at the bottom of the Settings page.
